Two Triangles Stacked

Ethics at the Core of Every Project Upholding integrity, accountability, and respect to foster trust and excellence in the project management profession

At PMI Botswana Chapter, we believe that ethical conduct is the foundation of professional excellence. In an environment where trust, accountability, and transparency are critical to success, our members are guided by PMI’s globally recognized Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. This code not only reflects the values that shape our identity but also outlines the standards of behavior expected from every project management professional.

"Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do." – Potter Stewart

A Commitment to Ethical Leadership

Project managers often navigate complex environments where decisions carry significant consequences. PMI’s Code of Ethics ensures that these decisions are made with integrity and respect—promoting fairness, honesty, and responsibility in every interaction.

The four foundational values of the PMI Code of Ethics include:

  • Responsibility – Taking ownership of decisions and their outcomes.
  • Respect – Valuing diverse perspectives and treating all individuals with dignity.
  • Fairness – Making decisions impartially and objectively, free from favouritism or prejudice.
  • Honesty – Being truthful in communications and actions.

These principles serve as a compass for professionals at every level, from emerging practitioners to seasoned leaders.

Why Ethics Matter

Ethical practices elevate the profession and enhance stakeholder trust. They:

  • Safeguard the reputation of the project management profession.
  • Build lasting relationships with clients, teams, and communities.
  • Guide professionals in making sound, principled decisions under pressure.
  • Help resolve conflicts with confidence and clarity.

PMI Botswana Chapter integrates ethics into its chapter operations, leadership practices, training programs, and volunteer engagements—ensuring that our members are empowered to lead with integrity.
